Nearly 423,000 foreigners had permits for temporary or permanent residence in Poland as of early 2020, or 50,000 more than a year ago. The largest number of permits (more than 35,000) was issued to Ukrainian citizens, whose number increased to almost 215,000, Polish Office for Foreigners spokesman Jakub Dudziak has said.

"Of the 423,000 foreigners who had valid documents for residence in Poland on January 1, 2020, the largest number were citizens of Ukraine (214,700), Belarus (25,600), Germany (21,300), Russia (12,500), Vietnam (12,100)," Dudziak said.

During the year, the largest number of permits for residence in Poland was issued to Ukrainians (35,600), Belarussians (5,500), Georgians (2,700), Indians (1,100) and Moldovans (1,100).

The most popular places for foreigners to live in Poland are Mazovian Voivodeship (the administrative center in Warsaw) – 117,000, Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Krakow) – 45,000, Lower Silesian Voivodeship (Wroclaw) – 34,000, and Greater Poland Voivodeship (Poznan) - 33,500.
