IM Ronald Bancod

International Master Ronald Bancod swept his rivals to capture the Grand Father Hangout Rapid Chess Tournament at the Gateway Mall in Cubao over the weekend.

Bancod finished with five points in the five-round tournament to edge out Grandmaster Joey Antonio, Jojo Aquino Jr. and National Master Carlo Magno Rosaupan, who finished tied at second to fourth places with 4.5 points apiece.

Aside from the gold medal and a plaque, Bancod also a P10,000 top prize.

Rounding up the Top 10 winners were International Master Barlo Nadera (5th), National Master Noel Dela Cruz (6th), Florel Cruz (7th), Jerry Areque (8th), Ritchie Jocson (9th) and engineer Ravel Canlas (10th).

A total of 260 players age 40 years old and above participated in the one-day tournament.
