IMPHAL, July 14 -- Amidst different problems in the state, politicians unfortunately are becoming opportunists while trying to claim a position in the government and this is not acceptable.
President of All India Trade Union Congress Manipur, Dr. M. Nara made the statement while briefing media at the sidelines of state level convention organised by All India Trade Union Congress Manipur at Manipur Press Club today.
"During the next few months people of the state may experience hardship and problems if the state government continue to neglect the current problems price hike of rice and water scarcity issue, in the state. As such state leaders should give attention to the problems of the state at the earliest" he said.
Nara further stated that after neglecting the problems of drought and price rise issues, the nature of peoples' representatives, fighting for a better position in the government instead of solving the problems of the people is not acceptable.
He said, "This is a wrong step, this is not the correct way and this is not acceptable to us and the leaders should correct their morality and do the right thing".
According to 10th Schedule, representatives are not allowed to change their parties but here politicians who contested under Congress party are also seen holding minister post in the government.
Such practice of ministers will wrongly lead the youths and it will never lead the state in a better future and as such the government should solve its internal issues at the earliest, he reiterated.
State secretary of All India Trade Union Congress Manipur, L. Sotinkumar also told reporters that the convention is organised to discuss different issues in the state. He also informed that the convention will continue for another three months in different districts of the state and also warned that AITUC will begin a movement if the government fail to listen to the demands of the union.
Some of the demands raised by the convention include implementation of Food Security Act, implementing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act for 100 days, implementing 7th pay commission in the state, implementing defined pension scheme instead of new pension scheme, regularisation of teachers, outsourced employees, casual workers and government schemes workers.
Filling up all the vacant post in different departments, increasing the monthly salary of Village Defense Forces personnel's and home guards, solving employment issues, following basic labour law, befitting punishment to law breakers, maintaining a minimum wage of Rs. 17,000 per month, pension scheme of Rs.3000 minimum for all workers and labourers and many more.
